Jason’s Bio

Jason

Jason Grangroth has had a passion for the outdoors ever since he can remember. Growing up in Southwest Washington he spent time in various outdoor settings; from the shores of the Pacific Ocean to the altitudes of the Cascade Mountains he enjoyed it all.

His artwork is influenced by this passion. His earliest adventures began at the back door of the families’ hobby farm.

He spent many hours exploring the forests where he would collect and eat black berries, licorice root and wild clover; chased rabbits with homemade bow and arrow created from old baling twine and bows of vine maple. He caught trout in tributaries of the Columbia River and Steelhead, Salmon and Sturgeon in the main branch of the same river. At age twelve, he shot his first deer, a blacktail buck. Today Jason is an avid hunter, who says, that he learned the skills and techniques of hunting from his father, who also encouraged him to continue painting and pursue his passion.

The impact of the outdoors on Jason resounds in his artwork; from grand vistas of the Cascades to wild creatures of the forest. His earliest drawings were created at his mothers’ easel and reflected his outdoor adventures. During elementary and post-secondary school he further developed his interest in drawing and painting and received many art awards. His award winning art has been displayed in the Washington State capital and one piece graced a wall in the White House. Jason’s favorite big game animal to paint is Elk. Although, now he has added whitetail, mule deer, moose, black bear, water fowl, and fish to his portfolio. Recently, Jason’s painting of a brown trout was selected first place in the 2008 Minnesota Trout and Salmon Stamp Contest. He was runner up two years in a row prior to winning the 2008 contest.

Jason has lived and worked in Washington, Colorado and Minnesota. Currently, Jason his wife Kristin and their five children live in Silt, Colorado.
